Palaephatidae là một họ côn trùng trong bộ Cánh vẩy, và là họ duy nhất trong liên họ Palaephatoidea gồm bảy chi đã biết. Những "bướm đêm Gondwanaland" này có sự phân bố rời rạc, xuất hiện chủ yếu ở Nam Mỹ (Davis, 1986), với 4 loài ở miền đông Úc và Tasmania và 1 loài ở Nam Phi (Davis, 1999). Ấu trùng cuộn lá của Proteaceae (Ptyssoptera)[2] hay Verbenaceae (Azaleodes) (Nielsen, 1987). Palaephatoidea, một nhóm Monotrysia điển hình, là một trong hai ứng cử viên chính cho nhóm chị em của hầu hết các loài Lepidoptera, Ditrysia (xem Tischerioidea và cả Wiegmann et al., 2002). Trung tâm phân bố của Palaephatidae tập trung ở các vùng mát mẻ, ẩm ướt của rừng ôn đới bị chi phối bởi Nothofagus và thảm thực vật liên quan ở miền Nam Chile (Davis, 1986).
