Anthonomus is a genus of weevils. This genus includes major agricultural pests such as the boll weevil, strawberry blossom weevil, and pepper weevil as well as promising biocontrol agents such as A. santacruzi.
Taxonomy
Clark (2005) has been revising the subgenera of Anthonomus. The taxonomy is unclear at the present whether Cnemocyllus should be a genus or a subgenus within Anthonomus.[1] Research suggests that the genus Hampea (Malvales: Malvaceae) was the original host plant for the A. grandis species group.[2]
