Nguồn gốc

Theo sách "Anglo-Saxon Chronicle", Wessex được tìm thấy bởi Cedric và Cyndric, thủ lĩnh của bộ lạc Gewisse, người đặt chân lên bờ biển Hampshire và lần lượt chinh phục các vùng đất xung quanh, trong đó bao gồm cả đảo Wight.
