Muỗi Anopheles (phát âm tiếng Việt: Muỗi A-nô-phen) hay còn gọi là muỗi đòn xóc là một chi muỗi gồm hơn 460 loài trong đó có nhiều loài là tác nhân gây bệnh sốt rét ở người. Có khoảng 60 loài đốt máu người và có thể truyền sốt rét. Một số loài Anopheles khác là trung gian truyền bệnh giun chỉ (Brugia malayi, Brugia timori và Wuchereria bancrofti) và các bệnh virus.
Đặc điểm
Chiều dài của muỗi chiều dài bằng chiều dài của vòi, trên cánh muỗi có các vẩy đen trắng, muỗi đậu chếch một góc 45o so với giá thể. Anopheles culicifacies một loài truyền bệnh ở Nam Á là một ngoại lệ, khi muỗi đậu thân gần như song song với giá thể. Trứng Anopheles được đẻ từng chiếc, trứng có hai phao ở hai bên, nổi trên mặt nước cho tới khi nở.
Trứng nở sau 2-3 ngày. Ở vùng nhiệt đới, thời gian từ khi trứng nở tới khi muỗi trưởng thành khoảng 11-13 ngày. Bọ gậy Anopheles không có ống xiphông, nằm ngang trên mặt nước. Nơi cư trú của bọ gậy thay đổi theo từng loài, nhưng đa số chúng thích nơi có ánh sáng mặt trời, nước đọng haychảy chậm, hai bên bờ có cây cỏ, rong rêu.
Đốt người
Muỗi ưa thích vật chủ, nơi đốt máu, thời gian đốt máu và tập tính trú đậu, tiêu máu khác biệt với các loài muỗi khác. Loài Anopheles dirus sinh sống ở trong rừng chủ yếu đốt máu các loài linh trưởng như khỉ, vượn... Khi có người đi vào rừng và hiện diện tại đây, muỗi Anopheles dirus chuyển sang đốt máu người. Chúng có khả năng đốt máu người cả ở trong nhà và ngoài nhà.
Tại Việt Nam, hoạt động đốt máu người của muỗi Anopheles dirus phổ biến từ khoảng 20 giờ đến 24 giờ. Vùng sốt rét lưu hành nặng ở rừng núi thường có sự hiện diện của Anopheles dirus, tại nơi đây có nhiều dân tộc thiểu số sinh sống, tập quán ngủ màn còn hạn chế. Anopheles dirus thường trú đậu, tiêu máu ở ngoài nhà sau khi đốt máu người.
