Vietnamese translation

Okay, I'll give it a try:

Chào,

Tôi là người Pháp đóng góp vào Wikipedia tiếng Pháp. Bố của tôi là người Việt và mẹ là người Pháp, mà không may là tôi đâu học tiếng Việt bao giờ đâu.

Tôi hy vọng là, dùng [deduction]?, tôi có thể đóng góp là cộng thêm liên kết liên wiki.

Yeah, but I still haven't really been able to translated "deduction." Not sure exactly what you meant by that, so I can't find a decent translation. – Minh Nguyễn 01:54, 9 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Well, sorry, English is a foreign language (-: I just mean that as I don't understand a word, I just notice the similarities and try to work with it, e.g. I understood that "Tiếng" means "language" or something like that by seeing it in the context; and understood that "Anh" means "United Kingdom" by seing the interwiki links; I thus deduce that "Tiếng Anh" means "English language". Hi, Bố bạn là người Việt, mẹ bạn là người Pháp, thế nên không thể chỉ nói là bạn là người Pháp được. Chắc chắn bạn có quốc tịch Pháp, và nếu bạn chỉ có duy nhất một quốc tịch Pháp thì về mặt pháp lý bạn là người Pháp, nhưng theo cách nói của người Việt Nam thì bạn là người Pháp gốc Việt hoặc là con lai Pháp (ở đây không mang tính chất negative)

French article on Vietnamese

Here are some more things you could add to your article on Vietnamese:

• Some place names are from French as well. For example, The Hague (in English) is La Haye in French, and therefore La Hay in Vietnamese.
• Paris is translated as Ba Lê (from Chinese) or left as "Paris" but pronounced like "Pa ri" (which is probably more like "Ba ri," since the p sound can't normally start a word in Vietnamese).
• Others may understand the history and significance of this more than I (my user talk page has a nice discussion of it), but capitalization and hyphenation aren't yet standardized, and varies from writer to writer. For example, Spain is often written as Tây Ban Nha, but is also often written Tây ban nha or Tây-ban-nha. This often complicates longer proper names, such as Tòa án Quốc Tế vì Công Lý, which could conceivably (?) be written Tòa Án Quốc Tế vì Công Lý.
