Latex house paint dripped by means of Trojan latex condoms, ribbed for her pleasure. Creating holes in the condoms proved somewhat difficult--thumb tacks weren't very useful, but bent paper clips proved much more effective.
I began with the purple as the lowest layer. I went in with blue paint, which was really, really runny. I applied it as actual drips of paint instead of the blotches, almost like raindrops. I noticed that the blue paint was of a much different consistency than the rest of the paint, which would later create some interesting effects. After that, I added the brick red paint, which was really thick, but created a nice mix between the very runny blue and the medium purple. I then added another layer of blue drops. I followed that with the yellow paint, which was thin enough to create a good flow out of the condoms and really created some nice lines to accent the piece. I then tried to add a final layer of blue drips to the painting, which was where things became interesting.
I was just about finished and ready to let the sucker dry when I lost my handle on the blue paint condom, and a giant splash of paint hit the upper left corner as the painting is displayed. Not sure quite what to do as the blue paint spread all over, I tried to dam it up from spreading toward the center of the painting. I then decided to add some red and yellow to the blue mass, hoping that I'd be able to save it.
The blue began to drain off the canvas, but it took some of the yellow and red with it. By the time I came to look at it the next day, I discovered what looked like a dried-out reservoir in that section of the painting, with clear signs of 'erosion' in the paint. My accident had become the most interesting part of the painting.
As for the official logic for this creation? I had the idea of using paint in balloons, but not having any lying around, I went for the closest thing I had in my room--condoms. I then remembered a line Pollock retorted (from a clip of Pollock the movie we saw in Art Appreciation II). When he was asked how he knew he was done with a painting, Pollock responded, "How do you know when you're finished making love?" I had my justification, aside from the whole drip painting being a metaphor for male ejaculation. (My joking justification in my own mind was that it was a metaphor to the first time I copulated--I was nervous, didn't really know what I was doing, lasted about an hour, I gained a little confidence as I went on but realistically anything good I did was by accident, and it finished off with a bang.)
