Corrections

The map still has "Haiphong." According to the official site, this be changed to "Hải Phòng."

Here are some more corrections, according to [1]:

  • "Hong Gai": Hồng Gai
  • "Hue": Huế
  • "Da Nang": Đà Nẵng

According to [2]:

  • "Dao Phu Quoc": (Đảo) Phú Quốc

According to [3]:

  • "Quy Nhon": Quy Nhơn

Acording to [4]:

  • "Long Xuyen": Long Xuyên

According to [5]:

  • "Mekong": Mê Kông

According to my mother:

  • "Hainan Dao": (Đảo) Hải Nam

Also, the accent marks on Cần Thơ are hard to see.

  • Fan Si Pan (the northern mountain)
  • Con Đảo (any accent on Con?) (the southerm island). --Menchi

Fan Si Pan is in the extreme north of Vietnam, where there are many ethnic minorities. I think Fan Si Pan is the name of the mountain in one of the languages spoken there, since the Vietnamese alphabet doesn't include the letter f. This government source use the Fan Si Pan spelling. Some cities in Vietnam also have foreign names, notably Pleku. DHN 07:20, 4 Dec 2003 (UTC)

I'm all done w/ the new map but three cities labels:

  1. The northern coast city of Vihn: Vịnh or Vĩnh?
  2. Nha Trang (south)
  3. Cam Ranh

According to my Google searching, it seems that it's correctly spelled "Vĩnh." – Minh Nguyễn 01:05, 17 Dec 2003 (UTC)
Nope, Vinh, Nha Trang, and Cam Ranh are all correctly spelled (i.e. no diacritical marks). Vĩnh Long is a smaller city in the south as opposed to Vinh which is a fairly large city in the north. -->Born near Nha Trang DHN 02:38, 17 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Vietnamese file name

"Map" is danh từ, right? I'm thinking of renaming the file, as file change the extension to PNG (because JPG deteriorates quickly, I saved only once, and you can already see the ugly artifacts). The only problem is that my Chinese PC does not allow any accent marks in file name, so that means the files I upload will be accentless too. (But WP does allow accents or even Chinese characters in the file name.) Any way to get around that? --Menchi 13:16, 30 Nov 2003 (UTC)
