This template is used to provide an easy mechanism by which to cite Statistics Canada online documents for census data.
Note: Support for the 2016 census has been added.
Usage
[sửa mã nguồn]{{SCref |year = |unit = |type = |code = |name = }} {{SCref|year=|unit=|type=|code=|code2=|name=}}
Parameters
[sửa mã nguồn]The following parameters will be used to build the reference.
- code
- This is Statistics Canada's code that uniquely identifies each geographical or statistical entity for which we want to consult census data. This can be obtained in various ways, for instance by looking at the value of
Code1=
orGC=
in the URL of the corresponding Statistics Canada web page, or from the "How to Cite" information listed at the bottom of each document (see examples in Sample usage section).
- year
- The year of the census. The default value is 2011. Valid years are 2001, 2006, 2011, 2016; however, not all types of data are available from Statistics Canada for some years.
- type
- The type of source for the data. The default value is prof for profile. Valid entries are:
- prof
- for Census Profiles (for valid years, see below under unit)
- fog
- for Focus on Geography outlines (2011 only, and only for unit = PR, CMA or CSD
- prof
- unit
- The type of unit for which the reference is being created. Valid entries for type=prof (profile) are:
- pr or PR for a province or territory (2001, 2006, 2011)
- cma or CMA for a census metropolitan area or census agglomeration (2001, 2006, 2011)
- cd or CD for a census division (2001, 2006, 2011)
- csd or CSD for a census subdivision (2001, 2006, 2011)
- popc or POPC for population centres (2011 only); requires code2 to be set (use the code for the respective province)
- er or ER for an economic region (2011 only)
- use this if year=2011 and code is one of the 17 administrative regions of Quebec (note: 2011 code values differ from 2006's)
- hr or HR for a health region (2001, 2006 only)
- use this if year=2006 and code is one of the 17 administrative regions of Quebec (note: 2006 code values differ from 2011's)
- fed or FED for a federal electoral district (2011 only)
- dpl or DPL for a designated place (2011 only)
Optional parameters
[sửa mã nguồn]- code2
- Normally, you should not need to specify this. Use only if you know what you're doing.
- The Statistics Canada code for the containing unit or province (given as
Code2
in the URL. The codes are:- two digits for a province, such as "35" for Ontario
- If unspecified, the defaults are:
- the first two digits of code, if unit is other than "cma", "pr", "popc"
- the value 01 (Canada), if unit is "cma", "pr", "popc"
- If specified, you should set it to the corresponding province, eg, for Toronto CMA, code=535 and code2 can be set to 35 for Ontario)
- name
- Specify the name of the reference. This is useful when using the reference as a citation for multiple statements.
Sample usage
[sửa mã nguồn]The number of digits for the specified code depends on the unit it represents.
If it is two digits, it stands for a province or territory, or for Canada itself. The codes are:
- 01 Canada
- 10 Newfoundland and Labrador
- 11 Prince Edward Island
- 12 Nova Scotia
- 13 New Brunswick
- 24 Quebec
- 35 Ontario
- 46 Manitoba
- 47 Saskatchewan
- 48 Alberta
- 59 British Columbia
- 60 Yukon
- 61 Northwest Territories
- 62 Nunavut
Prof
[sửa mã nguồn]These examples are for type=prof (Census Profiles). Because this is the default type, the type parameter is omitted here.
This can be used for provinces, territories, or for Canada itself.
{{SCref |unit=pr |35}}
{{SCref |unit=pr |year=2006 |code=35 }}
{{SCref |unit=pr |year=2001 |code=35 }}
(formerly Minganie—Basse-Côte-Nord) This is a census division, which corresponds to two regional county municipalities of Quebec.
{{SCref |unit=cd |2498}}
{{SCref |unit=cd |year=2006 |code=2498 }}
{{SCref |unit=cd |year=2001 |code=2498 }}
- Toronto census metropolitan area (CMA)
- The unit type "cma" is used for both census metropolitan areas and census agglomerations.
{{SCref |unit=cma |535}}
{{SCref |unit=cma |code=535 |year=2006}}
{{SCref |unit=cma |code=535 |year=2001}}
A census subdivision.
{{SCref |unit=csd |3519049}}
- “(Mã 3519049) Census Profile”. 2011 census. Cơ quan Thống kê Canada. 2012.
{{SCref |unit=csd |code=3519049 |year=2006}}
- “(Mã 3519049) Community Profiles”. 2006 census. Cơ quan Thống kê Canada. 2007.
{{SCref |unit=csd |code=3519049 |year=2001}}
- “(Mã 3519049) All Data”. 2001 census. Cơ quan Thống kê Canada. 2002.
This is a population centre; there is no data for population centres prior to the 2011 census.
{{SCref |unit=popc |code=1071}}
This is an administrative region of Quebec. These are handled oddly by the census: there is no data for 2001; for 2006 they are listed as "health regions" (hr); for 2011 they are listed as "economic regions" (er); and note the code for 2011 differs from that of 2006.
{{SCref |unit=er |code=2415 |year=2011}}
{{SCref |unit=hr |code=2401 |year=2006}}
There is no data for federal ridings prior to the 2011 census.
{{SCref |unit=fed |code=35059}}
- Alban part A (Local service board)
A "designated place". There is no data for these prior to the 2011 census.
{{SCref |unit=dpl |code=350030}}
HR
[sửa mã nguồn]The "HR" unit seems to have been removed in the 2011 census.
- Brant County Health Unit
{{SCref |unit=hr |code=3527 |year=2006}}
{{SCref |unit=hr |code=3527 |year=2001}}
Fog
[sửa mã nguồn]These are for "Focus on Geography" outlines. These are only provided for the 2011 census, and only for unit types "pr", "cma", "csd".
{{SCref |unit=pr |type=fog |35}}
- Toronto census metropolitan area (CMA)
{{SCref |unit=cma |type=fog |535}}
- King, Ontario, a census subdivision
{{SCref |unit=csd |code=3519049 |year=2011}}
Named reference
[sửa mã nguồn]To name the reference created by this template, assign a value to the name parameter. For the Toronto CMA (unit type "cma"), the resultant reference can be named "2011cma".
{{SCref |unit=cma |name="2011cma" |535}}
In this case, subsequent citations may refer to it:
<ref>[[#2011cma|Statistics Canada]]: 2012<ref>
This will create an entry in the footnotes section as:
^ Statistics Canada: 2012
It will also link the text "Statistics Canada" to the full reference. For multiple references to Statistics Canada, use more distinctive citation text.
