Conrad Bain sinh ra ở Lethbridge , Alberta, con trai của Jean Agnes (nhũ danh Young) và Stafford Harrison Bain, một người buôn bán. Ông học tại Trường Mỹ thuật Banff trước khi phục vụ trong Quân đội Canada trong Thế chiến II .
