Trogonidaelà một họ chim duy nhất trong bộ Trogoniformes.[1] Họ này có 39 loài được xếp vào 8 chi. Hóa thạch của chúng được ghi nhận cách đây 49 triệu năm đến Eocene giữa. Chúng có thể là một thành viên phân nhánh cùng gốc của bộ Coraciiformes[2] hoặc có quan hệ rất gần với chim chuột và cú.[3][4]
