Xin chào![sửa mã nguồn]

Hi, Mgz, and welcome to Wikipedia Tiếng Việt! I think the other Minh at mozillaZine once e-mailed me. I'm excited to hear that someone with translation experience is finally here, so my abundant translation errors won't stay around forever. :) And I can't wait for a translated Firefox, because that would definitely convince my parents to Make the Switch. – Minh Nguyễn 01:48, 12 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Signatures[sửa mã nguồn]

Just a tip: there's an easy way to create automatic signatures for each of the comments you make on any of the Talk pages here (or any page for that matter). Just type in ~~~ for your linked username, or ~~~~ for your linked username plus the current date and time.

I noticed the opinions you gave on the front page. Next time, please place your opinions in a better place, like a Talk page or your own user page. People who monitor the Recent Changes page (i.e., the people who can change the logo) will see your opinions there. In any event, I've proposed that we adopt Nohat's version of the logo, which is much better. – Minh Nguyễn (talk, blog) 19:47, 25 Apr 2004 (UTC)

"May mắn"[sửa mã nguồn]

I noticed that you used may mắn at Wikipedia:Bầu cử cho Ban Quản Trị của Hội Wikimedia. For some reason, I was always under the impression that may mắn meant "greed." But Từ Điển Tiếng Việt says the word means "luck" or "fortune." Oh well. We learn something new every day. : ) – Minh Nguyễn (thảo luận, blog) 01:46, 2 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Yup, the crazy guy @ Mozillazine is me :)[sửa mã nguồn]

Damn, I just found out this link. This is summer and I'm un-employed, so sometimes I'm bored and you'll see me in action again. BTW it is LOOOONG way to go from here to Firefox 1.0 :(.

Yeah, especially if they keep adding new features. I mean, the features are really great, but that's exactly the "sidetracking" or "slipping" Ben Goodger's been talking about. – Minh Nguyễn (thảo luận, blog) 04:37, 14 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Wohoo, I found myself MORE COMFORTABLE with wiking NOW.[sửa mã nguồn]

Wohoo, I found myself MORE COMFORTABLE with wiking NOW.

Wow! Thanks for all your contributions so far! If you have any questions about the more advanced wiki formatting syntax, you can read the tutorial. Or you can just experiment, which I've found much more interesting. – Minh Nguyễn (thảo luận, blog) 02:01, 22 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Firefox l10n[sửa mã nguồn]

Hey, now that Firefox is finally at 1.0, are you planning to translate it to Vietnamese soon, like you said you would at your userpage? :) Gervase Markham (gerv) is asking for volunteers, since Vietnamese is a "big [language]" to him. (Though he incorrectly said that there was once a Firefox build in Vietnamese – there never was.)

If you do end up doing some translation for them, I'd be glad to help out. Some resources:

Sorry, I'm an administrator (sysop), not a developer. Plus, in many cases wikicode is easier to type than BBCode. Take lists for instance: just start a line with * and you have a list. In BBCode, the syntax is almost the same as HTML.

And can we inter-connect wikipedia in different languages? For example the same pix in vi.wikipedia can be use in en.wikipedia without the need of uploading another same pix? (hint: the alexander the rhodes pix)

That's what Commons is now for. You can upload an image there (many en: images are already there), then put it in a vi: article just like normal. For example, [[Image:GuatemalaWeavings79.jpg|center|100px|Traditional weavings, Guatemala]] points to Sunday's featured image at Commons:

Traditional weavings, Guatemala
Traditional weavings, Guatemala

The works of government of Vietnam is public domain, right? (similar like the works of US gov)

I'm not sure, and IANAL (I'm not a lawyer). Just to be safe, don't upload any until you know for sure. Now, there is the idea of fair use, but that's a very messy issue, and it should be reserved for things like screenshots etc.

also - words that the Vietnamese equivalent is disputed...so plz people list the original English word beside, please!!! (for example Ca-li (California)

Just to clarify: this would be for place names (countries, cities) and computing terms, right? Any other categories? – Minh Nguyễn (thảo luận, blog) 06:58, 6 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Foreign place names[sửa mã nguồn]

I'm totally [against] the use of Ba Lê / Gia Nã Đại, blah blah blah. VIetnamese is evolving ... I bet/bielive more people in Vietnam nowaday can recognize Paris and wonder WTF is Ba Lê? (esp the Youths, I dun see anyone 40+ contributing to vi.wikipedia). Keep the original English word is just FINE, or like one proposed - California ( cách đọc - "Ca-li-pho-ni-a" )

Oh... this argument again... okay, here goes:

The policy of using the old proper names was started by Nguyễn Hữu Dụng back when this project was begun – that was our first policy, in fact. So I've been using the old names for over a year. Recently I've been putting the English version (or one of the newly Vietnamized versions) in parentheses. I can switch it, so "Gia Nã Đại (Canada)" will become "Canada (Gia Nã Đại). (All the pages are currently at the old names, but I can rename them if no one raises objections.)

To me, the old name looks a lot more elegant. Indonesia, for example, would be Nam Dương using the old name, but the new name could be "Inđônexia" or "In-đô-ne-xi-a". All the hyphens make it awkward to type (I type Vietnamese using VIQR), and the sheer length of the new style makes it stand out in a (mostly) monosyllabic/bisyllabic language.

Also, the old names are a lot more standardized. My parents have always called California "Ca Li". In fact, they have never heard of calling it "Ca-li-pho-ni-a" or "Ca-li-phoóc-ni-a". Afghanistan is A Phú Hãn in the old style, but it could be "Ap-ga-ni-xtăng", "Apganixtăng", "Áp-ga-ni-stan", "Ápganistan", "Ạp-ga-ní-xtăng" (this is how my parents pronounce it, actually), "Ạpganíxtăng", "Áp-ga-ni-xtan", "Ápganixtan", ad nauseum. Fortunately, all of the newer names are similar to each other, but I wouldn't be surprised if, once we switch to the new style, people engage in "moving wars", renaming these articles over and over again, to suit their hyphenating preferences.

On the other hand, the new style is a lot easier for me to pronounce. But I'm a native English speaker, so I can't say this on behalf of native Vietnamese speakers. And, actually, I was surpised when Nguyệt Nga told me Paris was "Ba Lê" in the old style (actually, he said "Bâ Lê", which was later corrected). My parents have always called Paris "Pa-ri".

In any case, we need to get more people to talk about this. I've heard from only a few people about which style to use, and it's about half-and-half right now.

Typing script[sửa mã nguồn]

Another stuff : Can we add a Java - Vietnamese typing script? similar like the one at http://dict.vietfun.com/

If you look below the typing space on the edit page, you'll see "Bảng ký tự [xem]". Click on "xem" and you'll see a table of all the special characters you'll probably need. Just click on a character, and it'll insert the character in the textbox by itself. No need to copy-paste!

I suppose I could add a typing script to the edit page, maybe right below the Submit button. I could use the script at TDTV (the word input box), since it's public domain. I used that script for a little Firefox extension of mine that lets you type in VIQR, Telex, and VNI. I'll package it as a normal .xpi extension when I have time – which means a long, long time from now. :)

Signature[sửa mã nguồn]

is there an automatically way to add the cool stuff (time, username, weblog like ya, Minh Nguyễn?

What you're asking for is a signature. Just type ~~~ to get your signature, or ~~~~ to get your signature and the date/time, or ~~~~~ just to get the date/time. Or you can click on the toolbar button right above the textbox in the edit page.

By default, your signature is either your username or real name, linked to your userpage. You can customize your signature.

Licensing[sửa mã nguồn]

Some of the CC licenses are compatible. See the Commons.

Update on licensing[sửa mã nguồn]

Okay, Ram-Man/Rambot has just informed me (using a bot) that the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) licenses, versions 1.0 and 2.0, are both compatible with the GFDL and works in Wikitravel too.

Hi,

I saw your corrections in fr:Discuter:Grammaire du vietnamien. I translated the french words you asked; as I don't speak Vietnamese, I propose you make the changes yourself.

The main author of the page is Hada de la Luna; she seems to have some weird points of view. If I remember well, she says the Vietnamese has a kind of intrisinc beauty due to its logis, which is close to the object oriented computer languages, and the article points out this analogy.

As nobody (for the moment, I try to motivate my relatives) has any competence about this topic on fr:, the page is suspected to be non neutral but nobody is able to correct it...

Hi Tuanminh01 .
