Aegothelidae là một họ chim theo truyền thống xếp trong bộ Caprimulgiformes.[2]
Phần lớn các loài là bản địa New Guinea, nhưng một số loài cũng sinh sống tại Australia, Moluccas và New Caledonia. Loài không biết bay Aegotheles novaezealandiae ở New Zealand đã tuyệt chủng.
Phân loại học[sửa | sửa mã nguồn]
Theo truyền thống họ này xếp trong bộ Cú muỗi (Caprimulgiformes), tuy nhiên các nghiên cứu phát sinh chủng loài gần đây cho thấy bộ Cú muỗi như định nghĩa truyền thống là cận ngành trong tương quan với bộ Yến (Apodiformes),[3] trong đó họ Aegothelidae có quan hệ họ hàng gần với Apodiformes hơn là với phần còn lại của Caprimulgiformes,[3][4] nên một số tác giả hoặc là xếp nó vào bộ Aegotheliformes Simonetta, 1967[5] hoặc là vào bộ Apodiformes Peters, 1940[6][7] hoặc đặt nó cùng Apodiformes trong nhánh gọi là Daedalornithes theo tên của nhân vật thần thoại Hy Lạp Daedalus, một người thợ thủ công tài hoa đã tạo ra đôi cánh cho con trai của ông là Icarus.[8]
